  • During his two seasons with the Cleveland Barons Dennis Maruk scored a team record 64 goals.

 

  • On December 12, 1981 Ian Turnbull became the first defenseman in Los Angeles Kings history to score a hat trick.  Turnbull finished the contest with four goals in a 7-5 win over the Vancouver Canucks.

 

  • Cesare Maniago earned the first shutout in Minnesota history when he backstopped the Stars to a 3-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on December 13, 1967.  On December 15, Maniago recorded the second shut in Minnesota history with another 3-0, victory over the Kings.  Maniago was also in the Minnesota cage for a 1-0 win over California on December 16, 1967.  In his first season (1967-68) with Minnesota Maniago had a career best six shutouts, in which three came again the L.A. Kings.

 

  • Veteran forward Lou Angotti was the first captain of the Philadelphia Flyers.  He wore the “C” for just one season, 1967-68.  Angotti was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in the June 1967 Expansion Draft.   During his short career with Philly, Angotti played in 70 games scoring 12 goals and adding 37 assists for a career high 49 points.  In June 1968 the Flyers sent Angotti to St. Louis in a multi-player deal.  Ed Van Impe became the next captain of the Flyers.

 

  • During their initial season, Andy Bathgate led the Pittsburgh Penguins in scoring. Bathgate skated in 74 games scoring 20 goals and adding 39 assists for 59 points.

 

  • The St. Louis Blues made hockey history on October 11, 1967 as they took to the ice for their first NHL regular season game.  Their opponent on this historic night was the Minnesota North Stars.  The game ended in a 2-2 tie.  The Blues first reached the scoreboard at 3:22 of the first period. Bob Plager and Fred Hucul assisted on Larry Keenan’s goal at 3:22 of the first period, the first in St. Louis history.  Keenan played in 40 games and scored 12 goals and eight assists for the Blues in their inaugural season.  It was also the first regular season game for the North Stars.  Bill Masterton is credited with scoring Minnesota’s first NHL goal.  Masterton’s historic marker, which was unassisted, came at 15:20 of the second period.
